Frequently Asked Questions

My MSHA 48 training expired, am I still eligible to take the 8 hour refresher?

To be eligible to take the refresher you must have received MSHA training in the past 36 months otherwise you would be required to take the 24 hour new miner course again.

What certification will I receive upon completion of my MSHA training?

Students that complete the 48 new miner and refresher courses will receive a 5000-23 signed by one of our certified MSHA instructors as a printable PDF.

Students that complete the MSHA part 46 training will receive their certificate as a training record that can be used interchangeably with the 5000-23 for the part 46 training according to the 30 CFR. That training record will need to be signed by the person identified as the competent person on the company's training plan.

If I’m not a miner do I still need to take the training?

Yes, anyone doing work on the mine site is required to have MSHA training.

What is the difference between part 46 and 48 training?

Part 46 covers aggregate mines. Part 48 covers metal, coal, and aggregate mines.

Isn’t MSHA Part 48 only for underground mining?

No. There are two parts to MSHA Part 48. Part 48A is the training required to work underground. Part 48B, which is what we offer, is the surface portion of Part 48 training. This training will cover you to work on the surface of any metal, nonmetal, or coal site or any aggregate site that has underground operations.
